Whenever I’m on a tropical beach vacay, I always bring a sarong with me. It’s such an easy, versatile beach cover-up that you can wear multiple ways. In this Reel, I share how to tie a sarong in three different ways (besides just as a wrap skirt, which is cute and easy too!).

1. How to Tie a Sarong as a Halter Dress

(Pardon the blurry screenshots from the Reel, but I forgot to snap actual photos when I was shooting this video!)

The first way is as a halter dress and one of my fav ways to style a sarong. It’s just so easy and fashionable! The first step is to hold the sarong vertically and tie the short end around your neck. I always double knot the ends. Then take the sarong around the lower half of your body and tie it around your hips.

2. Strapless Dress

The second style is as a strapless dress. Again, holding the fabric vertically, tie the top ends together on the side of your upper body. And then tie the sarong wrap around your lower body around your hips. You can make it as long or short as you like, and depending on how you tie the fabric you can achieve a slit dress style and show some leg.

3. One Shoulder Dress

This third version is probably the trickiest, but it’s honestly pretty easy once you get the hang of it. It’s a one-shoulder dress style and you can create a really cute look with this one. Take the top corners and tie them at your shoulder. Then do a second tie underneath your arm and the third tie around your hips. And you’re good to go!

I mentioned the wrap skirt style earlier, which is how I’m wearing my sarong at the very beginning of the video. That one is pretty self-explanatory, but it’s a quick and easy way to cover up after a beach day if you’re heading to grab lunch somewhere casual.

I’ll feel totally comfortable going into a restaurant like this if I’m wearing it with a one-piece swimsuit, and you can always throw on a tank top if you’re in a bikini.

This particular wrap I’m wearing is from a woman my family met in Kauai, who was from Bali and made the most beautiful sarongs with natural dyes. The colors were so vibrant and I’ve owned mine for over a decade and it still looks amazing! I wish I bought more of them from her because they just make such stunning garments.

There you have it! How to tie a sarong, three ways.
