TEACH

Aug 30, 2013

I’m excited to share with you all a special campaign that I’m partnering on. It’s the TEACH campaign and it’s all about the documentary, TEACH. The film is about what it takes to be a teacher in America today, and what a great teacher can mean for kids, especially those in urban, underprivileged areas. I’ve had several teachers in the past that have inspired me to do better, and whether it was elementary school, high school, under grad or grad school, they all had a few things in common—their ability to believe in me, but at the same time know how/when to push me to soar to even greater heights.

The documentary premieres Friday, September 6th, at 8/7c on CBS. You can check out the trailer here

When you think of a teacher who inspired you, who jumps into your mind?

Lemon spritzers recipe

Aug 29, 2013

I'm happy to be collaborating with Arrowhead today to show you how I get out of a mid-week slump by making a refreshing lemon spritzer with their sparkling lemon water.

Image courtesy of She wears many hats

Ingredients
1/2 cup honey
2 cups warm water
1/2 cup lime/lemon juice (or a combo of the two)
2 cups Sparkling Arrowhead Lemon
1 cup cold water
1 cup mint leaves
lime or lemon slices

Instructions
In a large pitcher, mix honey and warm water until honey combined.
Add lime/lemon juice, and 1 cup cold water. Mix well.
Crush mint and add to mixture. Using a muddle or wooden spoon handle, smash mint in bottom of pitcher. Add lime/lemon slices and refrigerate mixture until chilled (about an hour).
Once chilled, add 2 cups of cold sparkling water. Stir.
Pour through a strainer into individual glasses over crushed ice.
Garnish beverages with citrus slices and mint leaves.

Priscilla, Queen of the dessert

Aug 27, 2013

Last week I had the amazingly fun and glamorous opportunity to host a blogger night at SHN Orpheum Theatre. A handful of bloggers and I got to go backstage to get a close-up look at all the amazing costumes for the Broadway show, Priscilla. With more than 500 costumes, 150 pairs of shoes and 200 hats and headdresses, it was a smorgasbord of campy color. Pink paint brushes, cupcakes, kangaroos and more were pulled off the racks for our viewing delight. And the show has won a Tony for its costumes, so you know they're incredible. I mean how could Swarovski crystal encrusted costumes not be? After our backstage tour, we got to grab cocktails and enjoy the show. It was hilarious, sassy and had great, feel-good message. Priscilla is in town through August 31st, so if you're going to be in SF be sure to get your tickets

What to wear to a football game

Jersey ~ eBay
Shorts ~ GLO
Shoes ~ Converse
Bracelets ~ Forever 21
Lip makeup ~ c/o Violent Lips

When I was a kid, going to a Niners game with my dad was an excuse to get cotton candy and red vines. And while I still wouldn't say no to some fluffy, sticky cotton candy, now it's all about the outfit! Now that it's preseason, my family is starting to get fired up. Adding to the fun this year: Austin Collie, who I went to high school with, is the 49ers' new wide receiver!

When it comes to putting together a cute outfit for game day, I'm not a proponent of "shrink it and pink it." Throw on a jersey and work it, girl. I added some black and gold jewelry to go with the Niners' colors. And of course, how fun are my lips?? Violent Lips makes these awesome lip and eye appliques, that celebs like the Kardashians and Lady Gaga are rocking. This year, they came out with game day colors, so you can wear the colors of your favorite sports teams. I wish they were around when I was in college. I would've loved to put on the blue and gold when my Bruins were playing!

NCLA nails ~ So LA!

Aug 21, 2013

ncla so LA nail

You may have seen some snaps of this mani on my Instagram, because these little guys made me smile every time I looked down at my hands. It was like a fresh, palm tree breeze blew through my hair every time I saw them! The Nail Wrap is from NCLA. I did a clear gel mani over them to help them last a little longer, but they still started to chip off after a week, so I'm giving them 3 stars. I definitely wish they had a longer life to them, but they're so fun and I got so many compliments on them, it's pretty worth it.

Mt. Davidson

Aug 20, 2013

One of the (many) things I love about living in San Francisco is that if you need to get out of the city, there are so many options close by. The ocean isn't far, and there are lots of pretty trails and national parks a stone's throw away. In this case, my boyfriend and I only had to travel 15 minutes for a beautiful hike up Mt. Davidson. It was a bit of a gloomy day in SF, but it made the forest and the giant cross at the top of the mountain even more mysterious. You can see the fog rolling in in a lot of these photos. If you live in SF and haven't done this hike yet, I'd recommend it. It's about an hour round trip and pretty easy. Just watch out for poison oak in some of the less tamed areas!

What to wear for a dinner date with the girls

Aug 19, 2013

Dress ~ c/o LE TOTE (use code: LOVETOTES1 for a free tote bag)
Blazer & cocktail ring ~ Forever 21
Earrings ~ c/o Kanupriya Jewelry
Purse ~ Coach
Necklace ~ vintage, from my Grandmother
Nail polish ~ RCM color White Hot

One of the things I love about blogging is making fashion blogger friends in the bay area. We get to bounce ideas off of each other, commiserate over #fashionbloggerproblems and collaborate on fun posts. Today's post is the result of one such collaboration, with Jennifer of Just Add Glam, fellow My Runway App ambassador (thanks, Layla!). Over our dinner date, Jennifer and I had a fun idea pop into our heads—we should go to MAGIC in Vegas. Fast forward one month, and Jen and I are currently in Vegas! Ping me if you're here too this week; we'd love to meet up! And we'll of course be tweeting/instagramming from the event.

At first we were aiming for a "What to wear for a girls night out" post, but our outfits ended up being a bit demure when compared to what we actually wear for a night out on the town. So we changed the theme to a girls dinner date. A blazer adds polish to any outfit, and balances a dress that's on the shorter side.

Check out how Jennifer rocked a blazer with a pop of color for our dinner date, and see the full post on Just Add Glam!
