Alurent 90-second beauty

Jul 31, 2014

One of my favorite things about blogging is getting to try new beauty products and share them with you all! Today, I'm trying out Alurent Anti-Aging + Instant Erasure Serum—a patented, new skincare product that tightens skin to visibly lift as it smoothest creases and wrinkles. I know I'm only 25 (26 in a couple months!), but I'm still game to try any product that will attempt to smooth out fine lines. And even though Cameron Diaz loves her laugh lines (because they show that she's been smiling her whole life), I'd rather delay the onset of mine. Let's check out a little Before/After photo action, shall we?

At a first glance, my Before/After photo might not look glaringly different. But if you take a closer look, you can see that the coloring of my skin tone is much more even in the After photo. My pores are also much less noticeable, especially on my forehead. In fact, it almost looks like my forehead was airbrushed, but I swear on my grandmother's life I didn't photoshop it! The bags/fine lines under my eyes (sheesh, I need to stop pulling those late-nighters to write blog posts...I type as I pull a late night writing this blog post) also look a bit more smoothed out. As you can see, Alurent Serum lifts, tightens and rehydrates skin—and in just 90 seconds! I think I'm going to start using Alurent as a sort of primer or base underneath my makeup, since it did such a good job of evening out my skin.

You can use the code SHOP50 to purchase your own Alurent Anti-Aging + Instant Erasure Serum at a super discounted price! (It's usually $79.99 and with this coup you'll get it for $50 +free shipping!)

Wedding season is in full swing this summer, and today I'm sharing the second part of my collab with Stylelend (you can check out the first part of the series, here)! I wore this fit and flare Juicy Couture dress to Omied's college roommate's wedding a couple weekends ago in San Diego. I managed to play a few games of corn hole in these stilettos before surrendering to flats for more dancing.

If you still have a few weddings left for 2014 (like we do!) and you're located in the Bay Area, check out Stylelend for some amazing rental dress options. They have some gorgeous pieces (their Marchesa, Alice and Olivia, and Ted Baker dresses are some of my favs) and I can't wait to show you their Tadashi Shoji dress that I'll be rocking for one of our last weddings of the season!

Here are some other floral fit and flare dresses that I love for summer wedding attire!

Wedding Wednesday: mywedding + WTFab

Jul 23, 2014

Hi lovely readers! Today I’m excited to kick off a fun partnership with mywedding.com that I hinted at on Instagram a couple weeks ago. I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be mywedding’s new bride-to-be blogger contributor! Over the next year of wedding planning I’ll be sharing bits and pieces of the planning process, and tips and tricks that I learn along the way. You can read more about this collaboration in my intro post over on mywedding’s blog.

mywedding is an amazing resource for bride-to-be’s and covers pretty much everything you need to think about for your big day. There are so many moving pieces that make up a wedding, and I love that mywedding makes it easy to have everything in one place—your checklist, budget calculator, guest tracker, vendor info, registry, honeymoon, save the dates and matching wedding site…even changing your name!

You can also find great wedding inspo on mywedding. Their beautifully curated ideas section has me scrolling for dayyysss, and mywedding The Magazine is not to be missed. These online publications have pages upon pages of inspiration from real (gorgeous) weddings, beautiful and heart-felt pieces of advice from brides, and shoppable links to fancy finds for your bridesmaid gifts. I also loved their Real Summer Engagements section, especially since I’m trying to figure out what kind of style we want for our engagement shoot. Their magazine also has helpful tidbits like their guide to purchasing alcohol for your wedding. Brilliant. And so helpful, since I’ve been totally confused on how to approach this (How do you account for people like my mom who will have one glass of champagne at most, and then people like my cousin who will for sure be gettin her drank on?).

I’m so excited to be planning our wedding! We’ve set our date for September 12, 2015 (We booked our venue, yay! More on that later.), so we’ve got plenty of time. And yet I still feel like I’m behind on some things (“You haven’t found your dress yet?? You should probably get on that...”). Even though there will inevitably be some stress, I plan to enjoy every moment of being a bride-to-be. And I’m so happy to have mywedding as a resource!

P.S. Let me know what parts of the wedding planning you want to hear about! Drop me a line at whatthefab@gmail.com or leave a comment below.

Look Up

Jul 22, 2014

Recently at work I took a training about managing your energy in order to maximize your performance. The course went over all the different types of energy that we as humans have to manage (physical, emotional, mental and spiritual), as well as tips on how to manage these different energy buckets. Turns out I take good care of my physical and emotional health, but need to improve making my mental and spiritual health a priority. Tips for improving those areas included taking mental and physical breaks throughout the day, and meditation. Another tip our instructor impressed upon us: Checking your email and your phone is not a mental break! At first I thought this was fairly obvious, but as soon as we were given a break in our training, my instinct was to check my phone for emails/pings/Facebook messages/Instagram updates. I caught myself and reminded myself that that’s not a break, and instead I went for a walk outside, and went down the Google slide. It felt great to take a real break, and I was able to focus better when we came back to the training afterwards.

It’s been a couple weeks since I took this energy training, and I can honestly say that I really took what I learned there to heart. I’ve been meditating for 10 minutes every day, and I take breaks after 1.5 – 2 hours of solid work time. This new-found perspective has also coincided with smartwater’s “look up” Instagram challenge, which encourages people to look up from their phones and see how they become inspired. I’ve been looking up from my phone during my breaks (sometimes I even leave my phone at my desk! :-O) and when I do, I always return feeling refreshed.

A couple weekends ago, I was looking up at the view off the deck of my fiancĂ©’s family’s house.

This gorgeous sunset inspired me to create an outfit inspiration board incorporating the same beautiful colors into the look.

I love how the look turned out. And if I had been glued to my phone and hadn’t looked up, I wouldn’t have been inspired to make it; and missing out on a good outfit is a borderline tragedy. You can participate in smartwater’s Instagram challenge by following @smartwater on Instagram and tagging your photos with #lookupsweepstakes. Can’t wait to see what you’re inspired by!

We just got back from a quick road trip down to San Diego for a friend's wedding. On our way to dinner one night, Omied and I stopped for a stroll along the beach and to snap some outfit photos. I'm wearing a dress from my friend Jia's boutique, Studio 15. Her online boutique carries fabulous dresses that are made with quality fabrics, at an affordable price point. And a portion of Studio 15's proceeds go to Kleos, a non-profit organization that helps women in developing countries start their own businesses. And happy Monday to you, Studio 15 is giving one WTFab reader a dress of their choice! Enter the giveaway below by getting social with us and signing up for Studio 15's newsletter (The more channels you follow, the more entries you get! Bonus entries for signing up for the newsletter). 4th of July BBQ

Happy Hump Day everyone! Today I'm excited to share a few photos from our 4th of July BBQ with Black Box Wines. Funny enough, when I first shared Black Box on WTFab last July, it was from another BBQ with these same friends. This year, we escaped the San Francisco fog and traded it for a beautiful, warm day in our friends' sunny Redwood City backyard. Everyone contributed to our potluck-style BBQ, and clearly we were in charge of the wine.

We decided to "lose the bottle" and bring our Black Box varietals—a Pinot Noir (4 bottles worth in that one box!), a Chardonnay, and a Cabernet Sauvignon. It was so convenient to throw these in a canvas bag and bring them down to the South Bay without having to worry about glass or even a bottle opener. With all that wine, we didn't quite finish it all; but I'm not worried, since the box will stay fresh for a month after opening. The California Pinot Noir is their newest varietal, with aromas of strawberry and cherry and notes of toasty oak. It's perfect for a wine and cheese appetizer pairing, and also delicate enough to go with red or white meat (I'd save a fish dish for the Cabernet Sauvignon), which was great for our BBQ.

If you're ready to "Lose the Bottle" this summer, you can enter Black Box's sweepstakes on their Facebook page, and you'll be entered to win a $5,000 shopping spree!

Happy Monday! We spent the Fourth of July weekend in Tahoe with my fam and the fiancé's fam. We rented a party boat and spent the day out on the lake, and it was absolutely gorgeous. This waterfall at the end of Horsetail Falls was too beautiful to pass up for a shoot. I feel like I haven't worn a one-piece since I was 12, but I am loving this swimsuit! It's super comfortable and the design is really flattering. Best of all, when you're out on the lake BBQing, eating, and drinking all day, you still look and feel great because you don't have to worry about bloating or your full belly looking pudgy or any of that nonsense. Pass the potato chips, please. :D
