Bridesmaid Makeup

Jun 30, 2015

I spent this past weekend in North Carolina for my beautiful cousin's wedding. It was such a fun-filled weekend and I'm missing all the family time already! I was honored to be a bridesmaid, and I brought along my new EcoTools hair and makeup brushes to keep my bridesmaid look on point. For this summery, colorful wedding, I drew inspiration and makeup ideas from EcoTool's Looks You Love series, and created a shimmery, summer glow look.

To prep my hair before the hair stylist started working with it, I used the detangler and volumizing hair brushes.

Highlighting, contouring, and bronzing are my favorite makeup tricks for adding some shape to my very round face. I used the stippling brush to apply foundation and added highlighter and contour powder as well as some color to my cheeks with the tapered blush brush. The angled kabuki brush is quite possibly the softest thing I've ever felt, and I used it to apply a light finishing powder on my face.

[above] I added some bronze eyeshadow with these eye enhancing brushes. [below] The bridesmaid dresses were a citrus color scheme, and I love how the look turned out! Such happy, fun colors that all looked great together.

Bride/bridesmaid selfie before the wedding! We had so much fun getting dolled up together!

Thank you to EcoTools for sponsoring this post and helping me look great on my cousin's wedding day!

I had so much fun wearing this gorgeous Monique Lhuillier gown from Rent The Runway to a wedding in LA a few weeks ago! The material with imprinted roses and the high-low hem were both so unique. I pulled out my baroque pearls and added a sparkly thin belt to finish off the look. We're off to North Carolina for another wedding this weekend (my cousin's!), and then we'll have just two weddings left this year—including our own!

Summer Beauty

Jun 22, 2015

This post is sponsored by Target.

Summer is just around the corner and I’m so excited! I’ll be kicking off the first few days of summer in North Carolina, celebrating my cousin’s bachelorette and wedding! Here are a few beauty products from Target that help me beat the heat when it comes to the typical beauty challenges that come with summer (for me, that’s melting makeup, unruly or dry hair, and oily skin).

Jergens Natural Glow Moisturizer – This is my all time favorite sunless tanner. I just rub it on like a regular lotion and it goes on smoothly, without any streaks. It also doesn’t stain my clothes like other tanning lotions. I love having a summer tan without exposing my skin to too much sun!

It’s a 10 – This miracle leave in conditioner keeps my hair healthy, even when I’m spending time in chlorinated water.

Pixi Petra Makeup Fixing Mist – I like to spritz this product on my face to keep my makeup from moving or melting off (key for those hot summer weddings). It also helps provide a little extra hydration and gives your skin a dewy effect.

Clean Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets – These oil absorbing sheets are key right before photo time on a warm day! A quick dab over your face and excess oil is soaked up so that you’re not too shiny in your photos.

John Frieda Beach Blonde Sea Salt Spray – I loooove a good sea salt spray for adding texture to a wavy summer ‘do. You can check out my tutorial for no-heat beachy waves using this product here.

Covergirl Outlast Lip Stain – Because when I’m on summer vaca I’m busy sipping daiquiris and playing in the ocean, not fixing my lipstick.

Sonia Kashuk Lip & Cheek Tint – I like this tint for a little extra color, and I love that I can swipe it on both my lips and my cheeks. Everyone loves a two-fer.

What’s in your summer beauty bag?

When I think of the ocean, I think of my dad. My love for water and appreciation for sea creatures stems from him teaching me how to snorkel in Hawaii at a very early age. Since he's an avid diver, I always felt safe with him by my side, even if we were swimming out into deep, open waters. One of my favorite diving memories with him was when we had just finished up snorkeling and were getting back on land. We looked behind us and saw a pod of dolphins about a couple hundred yards out. He asked me if I thought I could swim out to them if he was with me and I said, "Of course!" I never would have swam out there by myself, but with my dad with me I felt totally confident. We dove back in the water and made our way out to the pod. When we finally found them, we realized they were spinner dolphins, and we watched them play and spin underwater, jumping out over the surface. One even swam up to us to greet us and check us out.

It's memories like these (and others like diving with sea turtles, and whale watching) that make the Nautica Voyage gift set perfect for an underwater adventurer like my dad. If you're looking for a Father's Day gift for the anchor in your life, you can find this gift set online or at the Men's Fragrance section of Macy's. And see more #NauticaForDad moments here.

Nautica is also hosting a great giveaway for a $4,000 Cruise Vacation Package. Five other winners will receive a Nautica Men's Fragrance Gift Package. Good luck!

Bridal Bootcamp

Jun 16, 2015

With just under three months to go until our wedding, I'm kicking my diet and workout routine up a notch! Here are three things that are keeping me motivated.

1. Urban Remedy Cleanse
I desperately needed to reset my bad food cravings after the weeks of travel I just got back from (unlimited Disney treats like Mickey Mouse-shaped pretzels and churros can do some serious damage). I love Urban Remedy's healthy meal plans that are a mix of a juice cleanse and healthy salads and greens. I've written about Urban Remedy on the blog before, but this time around I was excited to try their new bridal kit! After finishing the cleanse, I'm back to my pre-traveling-for-3-weeks weight and eating healthy again, ready to take on the next few months before our wedding (and before we honeymoon in France for 3 weeks, where I'll likely need another cleanse when I get back to the States!).

2. Jawbone UP MOVE
I've been using the Jawbone UP MOVE fitness tracker and the UP app to keep track of how much I'm exercising, what I'm eating, and how I'm sleeping. One big thing I've noticed: If you know you're going to have to log your meal choice in the app, you think twice about getting in the cheeseburger line at the Google cafe and instead opt for a healthy chicken salad. The tracker and app are helping to keep me accountable, not just for diet choices, but also for getting plenty of sleep and exercise. Sometimes I seriously think to myself, "If I don't go to bed now, I won't get 8 hours of sleep tonight, and it's going to show up in my UP tracker!" Same goes for getting my afternoon workout in.

3. Cute workout gear
It's no secret that I love cute workout clothes! If I have something bright and colorful and fun to wear to my workout, I look forward to a sweat sesh just a little bit more. This Bride tank makes me smile every time I put it on, and the back has a big ol' ring with our wedding date in it, which you can see here. It's fun to wear when I'm #sweatingforthewedding #bridebeastmode.

I'd love to know, what fun things do you add to your health and fitness routine to stay motivated?

Sky full of stars

Happy Sunday Funday! Today I’m so excited to be sharing a very special collaboration that’s different than anything I’ve ever created here on the blog! When HP shared this Behind the Scenes video of their Bend the Rules campaign, I loved all the cross collaboration that was happening between these amazing artists. It inspired me to complete a project that I had conceptualized at the beginning of this year, but hadn’t started working on.

Back in February, our friends Bobbak and Shauna got married in beautiful San Francisco. They didn’t hire a videographer, but they asked us to bring our GoPro along to shoot some footage, and the bride’s brother who’s pretty handy with a DSLR shot some scenes of key moments throughout the day as well. And that’s when I thought, wouldn’t it be amazing if we edited what we shot into a wedding video and surprised them with it??

After the wedding, the bride’s brother shared hours of footage with me, and I pored over all of our videos to find special moments to recreate the story of their special day. During the editing process I checked in with Omied on ideas I had for songs, timing, etc. He’s great at providing creative guidance. :)

After some long plane rides back and forth to Toronto, and a couple more late nights, their video was finished!

This project was definitely “bending the rules” for me since I really don’t know much about editing videos and I’ve never made a wedding video, but I had so much fun working on it! Since Bobbak and Shauna live in Southern California, we did a video call with them so we could see their reactions when we sent them the video. Their look of mixed excitement and confusion when they saw the subject line of my email (“Your Wedding Video!”), and then their many, many happy tears was amazing. I feel super honored that I was able to create something so special for them that they’ll be able to watch years to come.

Wedding Wednesday: Vegas Bachelorette

Jun 10, 2015

This Wedding Wednesday I'm sharing a bunch of photos from my bachelorette weekend in Vegas! My sister planned an amazing trip and I feel so lucky to have such wonderful friends in my life. The recovery at work the following Monday was a little rough (I can't party like I used to in my college days!), but it was well worth it.

Love these little blue robes! I included them in a gift set for my bridesmaids along with these custom sunglasses and flasks, as a thank you for coming all the way out to Vegas to celebrate. The robes match our cobalt blue color for the wedding, so they'll also double as getting ready robes on the big day.

One of the first things we did after landing in Sin City was head to the Cirque du Soleil show, Zumanity. Cirque shows in general are incredible but Zumanity was just freaking amazing! Add in the fact that it's a super sexy version of Cirque du Soleil and it was perfect to kick off the bachelorette weekend. Think ropes, chains, crazy acrobatics, and lots of gasping from the crowd.

After Zumanity we headed straight over to catch a Chippendales show, because what's more quintessentially bachelorette-in-Vegas than half naked men dancing to cheesy songs in firemen hats? It was kind of awesome. Tyson Beckford also happens to be their celebrity guest host, and he has an OK body...

Last stop of the first night in Vegas: Ghostbar. Nothing like dancing on a rooftop bar with amazing views of the strip!

Next on the agenda: A limo ride and photo sesh at some iconic Vegas spots thanks to LV Wedding Connection! We had a great time sipping champagne and stopping at spots like the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign, while a professional photographer snapped photos.

After grabbing dinner we took a ride on the High Roller at The Linq. We hopped on just before the sun was setting and the half hour ride was gorgeous.

To round out our last night in Vegas we hit up Xs where David Guetta was playing. I have to give a shout out here to the club promoter who hooked us up with VIP entrance and a bunch of free drink tickets! Michelle from Viva Las Guest List was great and I'd definitely recommend hitting her up if you're heading to LV. Shoot her a text at (908) 770-3570.

We spent our last day in Vegas lazing around in a cabana at SLS' Foxtail Poolclub. I'll be honest, at this point we were exhausted after partying two nights in a row and some of us were a bit worse for the wear. Our waitress laughed at us when we ordered mocktails instead of cocktails and said she didn't think anyone had ever done that before. Oh well, we were *le tired* and a good lounge sesh was what we needed before taking off for the airport.

Thanks to my sissy Hanae for planning my fun-filled bachelorette weekend, and to my cousins Claire and Erin, and my BFFs Kimmy and Allison for celebrating Vegas-style! It was a weekend I'll never forget. And a HUGE thank you to all of the shows and venues that reached out to invite us out and made my bachelorette even more special!
